Connecticut Pond Ecosystem Studied by Grade 4 Scientists!

Fourth grade scientists hiked to a nearby pond to study animal and plant life that make up a New England pond ecosystem.

Working as field biologists, students collected, observed, identified and recorded living things surviving in both pond and field habitats. Students used tools such as collecting nets and buckets, high-powered microscopes, ipad cameras, apps  and field guides to complete their work. Students created their own field guide to the plants located in a field near the pond. They also observed and identified the animals found swimming in the pond when they returned to the science lab.

Global Studies and STEM connection: Next, students will share their findings and knowledge of this New England ecosystem with students living in another area of the world. Our fourth graders will create some interesting computer animated programs to share with students in the north African country of Morocco.
