Arthropod Olympics 2013!

The third grade students at the Glastonbury-E. Hartford Magnet School recently hosted the Annual Arthropod Olympics in the school science lab!

The events were designed and engineered to challenge the tiny arthropod competitors in various tests of physical agility! Competitors running the distance were spiders and meal worms while the crickets large, back legs sent them jumping high. An all-star favorite of the Olympics, however, was the Praying Mantis who impressed the spectators/scientists with unique head movements as well as hooked feet which allowed the arthropod to grip and climb the highest or any other challenger

What a great way to learn science, math, engineering, technology and communication skills! Nice job, third grade!
