What did Fluffy the Science Dog find in the net?

We found very large flounder!

We found a very large flounder!

Notice the right eye on this flounder has grown into the right side of its' body. This flounder or flat fish spends most of the time looking for food on the bottom of the ocean floor. It can also change color to blend into the sand.

Now here is a large, fiesty Blue Crab! This is a male as you can see the narrow triangle on the underside of its' body. This is also the type of crab served on fancy plates in resturants. Blue Crabs DO NOT like being caught in a net and this one is ready to protect itself with pointy, sharp, pinching claws! We need to get this crab back into the ocean!

Fluffy the Science Dog is very brave and she volunteers to throw the Blue Crab back into the sea. Oh no! Before Fluffy can get her paw out to take the crab the big Blue Crab latches onto her TONGUE with a big pincher claw! OWWW!

She knows what to do; with one painful but quick action, Fluffy the Science Dog flings the Blue Crab out over the water and the crab lets go of her tongue.

Another problem solved, "All for the love of science!"

A little Sea Lettuce on the tongue....salty and soothing.......seaweed does not have pinchers.....

At the end of this day Fluffy the Science Dog is not too fluffy. Back at the dorm she needs time to drip dry and wait her turn with the warm, hair dryer. She will be back to her old self again soon and ready for another exciting day of science!
